A missed school day is a lost opportunity for students to learn. The relationship between student attendance and student achievement cannot be overlooked. Research shows that students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance.
Poor attendance has serious implications for later outcomes as well. High school dropouts have been found to exhibit a history of negative behaviors, including high levels of absenteeism throughout their childhood, at higher rates than high school graduates.
This is why we at Faith Family Academy take attendance seriously. So seriously, in fact, that we entered in a partnership with Drive Casa to reward children with perfect attendance. At the end of the school year, all students with perfect attendance are entered in a drawing ... FOR A CAR! It's a special program, and we believe in rewarding students who have taken their commitment to come to school seriously.
How is it working so far? The numbers speak for themselves. For the week of October 30th through November 3rd:
- 6th, 7th and 8th grades were at 97%
- 9th and 10th grades were at 96%
- 11th was at 94%
- 12th was at 93%
- and the staff was at 95%!!!
Way to show up, Eagles!
